A wedding music package with Mike Paul-Smith Music

In 2018 Mike Paul-Smith Music provided a live wedding music package for Ailsa & Will, an amazing couple who were planning a wedding in the Surrey countryside.

They really cared about music and wanted live entertainment for each part of their day. We planned each part of the day with them in great detail and by the end of the wedding we felt like old friends!

Wedding ceremony music

Ailsa and Will’s ceremony featured music from our male vocalist, wedding pianist, and string quartet. The string quartet started things off with a selection of classical music, followed by a surprise rendition of Ben E. King’s Stand By Me, inspired by the Kingdom Choir’s performance at the recent Royal Wedding. 

During the signing of the register, an opera singer friend of Ailsa and Will’s performed custom orchestrations of two songs arranged by Mike Paul-Smith himself. 

Then for the recession, we had another surprise performance of Higher and Higher including all the musicians present.

Drinks reception entertainment

After the ceremony we had a quick hop down the road to Ailsa’s mum’s house, where the afternoon and evening ceremony was to take place. 

We arrived before the guests, so that our roaming acoustic trio The Vintage Strollers could greet them with fun, lively music – with musicians wandering around between the guests. 

Our roaming musicians performed Ailsa and Will’s favourite jazz and swing tunes, and they also went for the wireless amplification option so that the music could be heard throughout the outside drinks reception.

Dinner and speeches

We had some time off over dinner – but still provided Ailsa and Will a wireless microphone for the speeches, and used our premium sound equipment to record the audio from the four wedding speeches for them to enjoy in years to come.

The first dance

Unsurprisingly for a couple who loved music, Ailsa and Will had a great request for their first dance – Something Beautiful, which was performed by our vocalist and pianist. 

The party

Then it was time to party! Our 10-piece The Get Downs line-up took to the stage performing all of Ailsa and Will’s favourite party classics – we certainly felt that the dancefloor was full all night long. The 10-piece band is one of our favourite line-ups – it includes both a male and a female vocalist which provides loads of variety, and a 4-piece horn section which really fills out the sound and adds a great energy to the performance.

The wedding music package

It was such a pleasure to provide Ailsa and Will’s wedding music package – a bespoke package of entertainment tailored to their requests for each part of their wedding day. 

Here’s what Ailsa had to say about our wedding music package a few months after the wedding:

“Live music was hugely important to us when planning our wedding. As soon as we found Mike Paul-Smith Music we knew we’d struck gold. Mike was amazing, finding a way to incorporate everything we wanted – including custom orchestrations and the roaming trio!

The live music created a backdrop for the emotions of a perfect day. The performance of ‘Stand by Me’ by Crawford in the church was incredibly moving and set the tone for a beautiful service. Our dear friend Fiona accompanied by the band had the bride in tears, while the incredible Hannah and the roaming trio at the reception got everyone in the party mood. The evening band had everyone on the dance floor all night, we didn’t want it to end! 

We had so many compliments from our guests about the band. Mike and the band made our day so special and we couldn’t recommend them highly enough. Just like our first dance, Mike Paul-Smith Music created “Something Beautiful” for our wedding!”
