The Down for the Count Big Band is a stunning 1940s styled big band, based on the historic bands of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman. 

The band recreate the best music of the American big bands – so you can also expect to hear timeless classics from the likes of Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw, Fletcher Henderson and Chick Webb alongside vocal songs from the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra. 

The Down for the Count Big Band is perfect at vintage dances and festivals – with a fantastic set list of songs for Lindy hoppers – and is part of the wider Down for the Count collective of vintage bands who, between them, have performed at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, Twinwood Festival, London Jazz Festival and at prestigious theatres and concert halls throughout the UK. 

The Down for the Count Big Band are also available to hire for private events where they mix big band classics with modern music for dancing. You can hire vintage dancers who can teach a short dance lesson and perform choreographed routines to the band’s live music.

Down for the Count Big Band: Line Ups

The Down for the Count Big Band features the classic big band line-up of 13 horns, rhythm section and vocalists. 

The precise line-up varies slightly depending on the number of vocalists, and whether the pianist also acts as the conductor.

17-piece
Piano/conductor, bass, drums, x4 trumpets, x4 trombones, x5 saxophones, x1 vocals

18 – 22-piece
Conductor, piano, bass, drums, x4 trumpets, x4 trombones, x5 saxophones, x1-4 vocals

Vintage Dancers
Add 2 to 12 vintage dancers who will get your guests involved on the dancefloor
