The Get Downs is a sensational swing and soul band available to hire for wedding receptions, corporate events and celebrations throughout the UK and internationally.
The Get Downs is the original band created by Mike Paul-Smith in 2005. Over the 18 years since the band has gone on to perform at countless events and is now one of the most in-demand function bands in the country with a client list including Ferrari, Virgin, Bentley, Sony, Deborah Meaden and James Corden.
The band performs a huge range of music, and is incredibly versatile – with something for people of all ages in the set list, making it the perfect option for wedding receptions.
Typically the band start the evening with lively swing and jive music, before performing soul and Motown medleys to keep your guests on the dancefloor and pop classics to round the night off in style. You can expect to hear everything from Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald to Steve Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Amy Winehouse, Bruno Mars, Paolo Nutini and much more.
Each song performed by The Get Downs has been custom-written for the band – and every note you hear is live, with no click tracks or backing tracks, giving the band’s performance a fantastic sound and incredible spontaneity. We perform in a range of line-ups from an 8-piece band right up to a 27-piece (or larger!) orchestra. We can also provide a smaller 6-piece line-up The Get Downs Lite.

The Get Downs: Set List
We’ve never played exactly the same set twice, but this is a fairly typical set list for most functions, weddings and corporate events. We play a mixture of swing, jazz, big band, soul, Motown and pop repertoire – this always gets people dancing.
We always keep your requests in mind when planning what to play at each party, and treat each performance separately. Please use this set list as a starting point, and get in touch with your ideas (and remember that we can perform two Soul & Motown sets if Swing & Jive isn’t your thing).
