6- and 7-piece versions of The Get Downs, ideal for events with smaller budgets.
The Get Downs Lite is an energetic and lively party band available to hire for wedding receptions, corporate events and celebrations throughout the UK and internationally.
This band is the scaled-down version of our larger band The Get Downs – and, whilst it doesn’t quite have the same huge repertoire list of the larger line-ups, the carefully chosen set list is full of upbeat dancing music to keep your guests on the dancefloor from the first song to the last.
The party starts with high-octane swing and jive music (including I Wanna Be Like You, Twistin’ the Night Away and Sway), moving on to soul and Motown music (Say a Little Prayer, Sir Duke) with some pop music as well (Valerie, Rolling In The Deep).
The standard 6-piece line-up consists of female vocals, piano, bass, drums, trumpet and tenor saxophone; and if your budget stretches, we strongly recommend adding a guitarist really adds a funky extra element to the line-up.
Many clients also choose to book the 6-piece band, and upgrade to the 7-piece band (with the guitarist) or even one of the larger Get Downs line-ups closer to the event.
The Get Downs Lite are also available as part of Mike Paul-Smith Music’s wedding music packages. Different groups of musicians from Mike Paul-Smith Music can provide entertainment for each part of your day – giving you a magical experience that your guests will talk about for years to come.

They gave us more than we could have expected and our guests from 21 to 86 were all dancing. My wife and I cannot praise them highly enough. The mixture of Standards, Pop, Motown, Swing and Jive was fabulous.
They gave that personal touch, and went that extra mile to ensure my special day was perfect in every way. We would rebook them in a heartbeat.
Here’s a typical set list from The Get Downs Lite. You can also see our full repertoire list below.
The main difference between The Get Downs Lite and the larger The Get Downs line-ups are that there is less flexibility in the set lists. Whilst The Get Downs can perform two sets consisting entirely of Soul & Motown music, The Get Downs Lite always starts the evening with some swing and jive music.

Their flexibility, professional attitude but above all, their fantastic performance was exactly what we were looking for. I would not hesitate to recommend them for any event where you want to provide that 'something special' for your guests.
The Get Downs Lite performs in two line-ups.
Female vocals, piano, bass, drums, trumpet, saxophone.
Female vocals, piano, bass, drums, guitar, trumpet, saxophone
It’s really worth adding the extra musician to make the 7-piece line-up if possible – the addition of guitar to the standard line-up gives the band’s performance a fantastic extra energy and increases the amount of repertoire we can perform (it actually doesn’t sound much different than the 8-piece The Get Downs line-up!).
It may be possible when booking the 6-piece band to swap either the trumpet or saxophone for guitar – if you think you’d like to do this, please let us know before booking. Sometimes we might suggest this for you, based on any song requests you might make.
Please note that The Get Downs Lite use the fantastic female vocalists featured on our main The Get Downs page. It’s usually not possible to guarantee which singer will be performing at your event but we will do our best to accommodate any requests.
The set list was fantastic and my feet have just about recovered from all that dancing!!
